Hidden Crib Dangers

Hidden Crib Dangers

Every September, Baby Safety Month is sponsored by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) to help parents and caregivers create a safer environment for their little ones. This year’s theme, “A Room With A Safe View”, focuses on safeguarding against hidden hazards in the home—because baby-proofing is just the beginning!

Creating a Safer Home for Your Baby

Raising a child is a joyful experience, but it comes with responsibility and knowledge. Ensuring your baby’s first years are safe and happy means: ✅ Using juvenile products properly – Always follow manufacturer instructions  ✅ Checking for recalls – Stay informed on product safety  ✅ Trusting your instincts – If something feels unsafe, take precautions!

Hidden Hazards to Watch Out For

While traditional baby-proofing helps, there are many overlooked dangers in a home. Here are some key areas to focus on:

Electrical Safety – Cover outlets and secure cords to prevent shocks  Furniture Anchors – Secure dressers, bookshelves, and TVs to the wall to prevent tip-overs  Laundry Room Awareness – Keep detergent pods, soaps, and chemicals out of reach  Window Safety – Use cordless blinds or install safety locks to prevent falls  Door Stoppers & Safety Gates – Prevent pinched fingers and access to unsafe areas

Spreading Awareness: Join the Baby Safety Movement!

JPMA encourages parents, caregivers, and retailers to help spread the word about Baby Safety Month. A special toolkit is available with safety tips, promotional materials, and educational resources to help families nationwide.

We will be sharing weekly safety tips and blogs throughout the month—stay tuned!
