Last month we talked about some activities and tips for staying cool this summer. While that task of staying cool in Phoenix in the summer is nearly impossible, there are a few things you can do to help. Mainly stay hydrated. Drink water or sports drinks (mix with 50% water), I personally use Emer-Gen-C Packets in my water to help the taste and keep my electrolytes balanced. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol and other beverages that dehydrate you. Stay indoors and stay hydrated. You may want to consider a humidifier if their air on your home is dry- the extra moisture will help keep your skin and hair youthful and reduce the water you lose while sleeping, too!
A drop in water by 1% has similar effects to being intoxicated or having been awake for 36 consecutive. And considering most of us are under-hydrated year round, that help s explain all the abnormal behaviors and car accidents during the summer months. We could all benefit from an extra 32 ounces of water a day- keep it in a bottle and carry it around with you at all times. If you keep it in your car, toss the bottle after 2 days- the plastic can break down in the heat and possibly release cancer causing chemicals.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and then hydrate some more. If you feel thirsty or your kids’ cheeks are red, it’s too late and you/they need more water ASAP. In the event of an emergency (real or potential), call 9-1-1 ASAP and move to the air conditioned areas of your house. Heat exhaustion and stroke is no laughing matter.
Public Car Seat Events are generally suspended during the hot summer months, but as always, you can call us for a private installation when the need arises. 480-719-1551.
