It’s true, summer is almost over. So I have an idea: let’s forget about all the things we did to get ready for the school year and finish out the summer in style with a great Labor Day weekend, with fun for kids and adults alike.
Labor Day Fun!
First, a very brief history on Labor Day: Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country
Now on to the fun part; here are three ideas that can help.
Sports. You have to get those kids running around and it’s not bad for us adults as well. Surprise your kids with a pickup game of kickball, whiffle ball or flag football. Kids against the adults usually makes it pretty interesting. Just get outdoors as long as it’s not too hot out, and be sure to drink plenty of water.
Make a Big Splash. A cannon ball is one of the best ways to end the summer – oh yeah, it’s fun for the kids, too. Anyway, here are a few tips to think about whether your family is relaxing in the water or on the water. Just be sure to practice water safety and use a dedicated water watcher and rotate positions every 15 minutes so everyone can get in on the fun. And adults, its ok to let go as well. Have fun!
And the Number 1 Way to Have Fun (insert drum roll here):
Cook out. This, of course, includes more than just the act of cooking the food. You’ve heard this from me before: It’s all about hanging out, relaxing and enjoying time with family and friends. Of course, we all know some moms and dads who take the grilling pretty seriously, which is great for the rest of us. No matter what, invite the family and your friends. After all, what a better time to reconnect and have fun than over some good food.
