I get asked all the time- “What can I do with my old car seat?” Generally, you can separate the materials and recycle them. We recommend that a used car seat is never bought or sold as the potential to injury to the recipient is just too great.
Recycling a car seat is made very easy this week. On April 22, there is a HUGE car seat recycle event at the Phoenix Fire Department Station #32 (7620 S. 42nd Place, Phoenix, AZ 85044), sponsored by Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Phoenix Fire Department and Safe Kid Maricopa County. Simply show up, fill out a quick contact form and a team of volunteers will separate all the metal, plastic and fabric materials. These individual components are then collected and sent off for recycle. Last year, we helped recycle over 400 car seats. That means we keep over 400 seats from being improperly used, and we helped the Earth as well by recycling all of the materials.
So bring your old seat and help do your part at this free event. We’ll see you on April 22! Please print and review the attached flyer for some basic car seat safety tips. Or better yet, hire us to come to your location and have your seat checked a certified car seat technician!
As a reminder, buying or selling used car seats is never a good idea. After all, your attempt to save a few bucks could end up costing you and your child, big time!
